For more than a decade, Mainer Associates has helped developers, contractors and design teams reduce the environmental impact of buildings through Whole Life Carbon Assessments, BREEAM, Life Cycle Assessment and sustainability consultancy.
Working on some of the UK's most ambitious developments, we repeatedly encountered the same challenge.
Carbon reporting was happening.
Carbon management wasn't.
Project teams had the ambition to reduce embodied carbon, but the information needed to make decisions was fragmented across spreadsheets, supplier emails, product data, procurement teams and consultants. By the time the numbers had been collected and analysed, the opportunity to influence the project had often passed.
We realised the industry didn't need another reporting tool.
It needed a better way to manage carbon while decisions could still be made.
That's where CarbonCentric began.
Built from Real Projects. Not Theory.
CarbonCentric wasn't conceived in a software lab.
It evolved from live construction projects.
Working alongside leading contractors and project teams, Mainer developed manual processes to capture embodied carbon information throughout procurement and construction, providing visibility that traditional reporting simply couldn't deliver.
One of the defining moments came during the delivery of 11 & 12 Wellington Place with Wates Group.
The project demanded ambitious carbon reduction targets that could not be achieved through conventional reporting methods. Together, Mainer and Wates introduced collaborative, real-time carbon tracking across the supply chain, enabling earlier interventions and better-informed procurement decisions.
The results exceeded expectations.
More importantly, they proved something bigger.
The methodology worked.
The only limitation was that it relied on spreadsheets and manual administration.
The obvious next step was to digitise the entire process.
