Foxton Centre

Mainer Associates was appointed as BREEAM Assessor and Accredited Professional (AP) for the new Foxton Youth and Community Centre in Avenham, Preston, targeting a BREEAM ‘Good’ rating to reflect the project and Local Authority’s commitment to sustainability.

Supported by £2.4 million from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s Youth Investment Fund, the new centre replaces the original 1969 building with a modern, energy-efficient facility designed in close collaboration with the Foxton Youth Forum. Over 15 young people helped shape the building’s layout, functionality, and environmental features.

Sustainable design elements include a high-performance building envelope, natural ventilation, LED lighting with smart controls, and air source heat pumps for low-carbon heating. The project also prioritised sustainable materials and enhanced biodiversity through new trees, hedging, and low-level external lighting that balances security with ecological sensitivity.

The centre offers flexible spaces including a double-height main hall with mezzanine and moveable stage, dedicated gaming, training, and dance rooms, plus a first-floor balcony for outdoor events. Completed in early 2025, the Foxton Centre is a forward-thinking, sustainable hub designed to serve the local community for years to come.
